According to WebMD, Colic is when a newborn cries for more than 3 hours a day more than 3 times a week. If you google and read a little you will find lots of information regarding Colic, possible causes as well as possible treatment.

We had sporadic episodes of this which we did not know was baby being overtired or stimulated.

There was one night around 7pm when baby cried and cried extremely loud for more than 30 minutes, felt like hours to us though. He was about 5 weeks old. We just drove and then he settled a bit then cried a bit more and then finally settled.

As a new parent, it is extremely scary and can also be frustrating as you really don't know what to do. Thank God we are in a new era and were able to google and check possible treatment options. Luckily for us the suggestion of driving in a car worked !

We experienced this again after we moved to Cape Town. We were so worried that something was wrong that we even went to an emergency room late at night. The staff there concluded the same- possible Colic, they suggested Telament Colic drops which we did use, I think it was 5 drops directly before a feed. It can be purchased at most pharmacies. We used this for about 2 months and it seemed to have helped as after this we had no more of these episodes of crying for so long.

Baby also got older and we started understanding his needs and wants a bit better.

It can sometimes be extremely frustrating and also overwhelming for a new parent to go through this. It really helps to have someone to share your feelings with, a friend, family member or health care worker.

Sometimes writing about it even helps and can make you feel better and cope with your feelings. It can also help to track baby's symptoms and signs and to also pick up any patterns that can lead to baby's discomfort.

All the best with this one. Please reach out if you need help or advice. So many people go through these challenges without anybody knowing and it is so common as well.
